Publications Team Application
Please submit this form by Friday September 27th 2024 11:59 PM.
Do you want to be part of the creation of one of UCD’s finest student publications? If your answer is yes (and let’s be honest, why wouldn’t it be?), then this is the right place to be.
Caveat Lector is a biannual magazine of writing, artwork, and photography submitted by UCD students and published by UCD LitSoc. The magazine has been in continuous publication since 2016 and we are planning on publishing the 18th and 19th editions this year.
The magazine is entirely student-run: publications team members review submissions, design the magazine, and organise the launch events. Being a member of the publications team is an excellent way to meet new people, learn new skills, and be part of something beautiful. Applications are open to anyone (from any course and stage) and the most important criterion is being passionate about good literature and Caveat Lector. You can even apply if you’ll only be here for one semester because, really, what better way to spend it?
Available roles
This year, we are looking for
- editorial assistants,
- graphic designers, and
- web designers.
As an editorial assistant, your main role will be to help review submissions and provide candid feedback about the works we read.
As a graphic designer, you (along with other graphic designers) will be responsible for coming up with a consistent branding for Caveat Lector, designing flyers and social media posts, and helping create the look of the magazine itself.
As a web designer, your task is to (in conjunction with the graphic design team) design and create a new website for the magazine. The current plan is to use WordPress, but plans may change. Any sort of web development experience is beneficial.
We aim to have about 3-4 hours of meetings per week. These are extremely flexible and scheduled after taking everyone’s availability into consideration. The occasional online meeting is also a possibility (e.g. during Reading Week) but most of them will be in-person. Please note that graphic designers and web designers are also expected to attend some, if not all, meetings to provide feedback on submitted pieces.
